    Retention Year: 1996 Recommendation: Retain The Fourteenth Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Doucette BE RETAINED. Judge Richard P. Doucette received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Colorado in 1966. Judge Doucette was admitted to the practice of law in 1966. He was in private practice until he was appointed District Judge of the Fourteenth Judicial District in 1981. Judge Doucette currently hears all district court cases, which include civil cases involving more than $10,000, criminal, domestic, and juvenile cases. The commission received responses to questionnaires sent to courthouse personnel, law enforcement, jurors and attorneys. Judge Doucette received high marks for sense of justice, compassion, integrity and control of the courtroom. Judge Doucette is also hard working.

    Retention Year: 1990 Recommendation: Retain Judicial Performance Commission’s recommendation: Should Be Retained. Judge Doucette was appointed to the district court bench in 1981. After graduating from law school in 1966, he was a special agent in the FBI. He served in that capacity until 1971 when he went into private practice until appointed to the bench. Doucette handles felony and some misdemeanor criminal cases, juvenile proceedings, larger civil disputes, divorces, probate matters, mental health cases and appeals from county court cases. His performance is well perceived by jurors, litigants and law enforcement people. Most attorneys believe his judicial reasoning is sound; however, some attorneys think he pre-judges cases, makes unnecessary comments not related to the issues at hand, and is short tempered.
