    Retention Year: 2026Recommendation: Meets Performance Standards Reports: 2026 Retention Survey Report (PDF) * Insufficient Responses to Publish 2025 Survey Report The Second Judicial District Commission on Judicial Performance unanimously agrees by a vote of 9-0, with one Commissioner recusing that Judge Lisa Gomez MEETS PERFORMANCE STANDARDS. The Colorado statutory judicial performance criteria are integrity, legal knowledge, communication skills, judicial temperament, administrative performance, and service to the legal profession and the public. Judge Gomez presides in Denver Juvenile Court. Judge Gomez meets all aspects of the performance criteria on which she is evaluated. The Commission acknowledges Judge Gomez’s excellent knowledge of the law and her efforts to ensure public confidence and consistency in Juvenile Court. Judge Gomez’s written decisions are clear, concise, and well-reasoned. Her notable strengths, as observed by the Commission and described in survey responses, is her knowledge of the law, the respect she shows for all participants in her courtroom, and her ability to balance decisiveness with empathy and compassion. The Commission, based on its observation and analysis of survey responses, did not identify any evaluation category in which Judge Gomez displayed a notable weakness as to the performance criteria. Judge Gomez exceeded 4 out of 5 of the productivity benchmarks for juvenile cases and the Commission is satisfied that she is working diligently to improve productivity. The Commission met with the Chief Judge of Denver District Court to discuss challenges facing the court system and also met with the Chief Probation Officer and a representative of the Denver Office of the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender regarding Judge Gomez’s performance. The Commission conducted a personal interview with Judge Gomez and observed her during court proceedings. It also reviewed opinions she authored, comments received from interested parties during the evaluation, case management data, and judicial performance survey responses from attorneys and non-attorneys who interacted with her. The surveys reflected personal opinions regarding Judge Gomez in the categories of case management, application and knowledge of the law, communications, diligence, demeanor, and fairness. A total of 11 attorneys and 3 non-attorneys responded to the judicial performance surveys expressing their opinion of Judge Gomez. The overall information and data reviewed supports the Commission’s recommendation that Judge Gomez meets performance standards. Judge Gomez has been on the bench since 2015, when she was appointed as a Magistrate Judge in the Denver Juvenile Court. Governor Polis appointed Judge Gomez to the Denver Juvenile Court in March 2024. Prior to her judicial service, Judge Gomez was a Guardian Ad Litem at the Office of the Child’s Representative Respondent Parent Counsel and served as Truancy Defense Counsel and Contempt Defense Counsel at the State Court Administrator’s Office. She also practiced as a solo practitioner. Judge Gomez received her undergraduate degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver and her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
