    Retention Year: 1994 Recommendation: Retain Michael J. Heydt was appointed a District Court Judge for the Fourth Judicial District in 1990. He was a County Court Judge from 1987 to 1990. Prior to his appointment he was Chief Litigation Attorney for the City of Colorado Springs. He has also been in private practice and worked as a Deputy District Attorney in the Pueblo District Attorney’s Office. A graduate of Colorado College he received his B.A. degree in history in 1976. He was a 1979 honors graduate from Washburn Law School in Kansas. Judge Heydt received an extremely high retention rating from the attorney evaluations. Judge Heydt received an overall retention rating of 91.5% for retention, 4.7% not to retain and 3.8% no opinion. Judge Heydt scored exceptionally high in all categories especial in the areas of diligence at work (97.1% felt he was diligent), demeanor and courteousness (98.1% and 95.2% respectively), and knowledge of the law and evidence (94.2%) In no specific area did Judge Heydt fall below the 89th percentile. Although the number of jurors, courthouse personnel and law enforcement agents responding were few in number, Judge Heydt received a near unanimous retention rating form these groups. Based on the information presented to the Fourth Judicial District Commission on Performance, the Commission recommends Judge Heydt BE RETAINED.

    Retention Year: 1990 Recommendation: Retain Judicial Performance Commission’s recommendation: Should Be Retained. Judge Heydt received his undergraduate degree from Colorado College in 1976. In 1978, he received his law degree from Washburn University School of Law. His experience prior to serving on the bench includes private practice, serving as a deputy district attorney and as deputy city attorney for Colorado Springs. He has served as an El Paso County Court Judge since his appointment in November 1987. Hi current caseload includes civil and criminal court matters and he also hears district court cases when requested in areas of civil and mental health matters. The majority of survey respondents feel very favorable toward Heydt.
