    Retention Year: 1998 Recommendation: Retain The State Commission on Judicial Performance recommends that Judge Peter H. Ney BE RETAINED. Judge Ney was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals in 1988. Judge Ney was in private practice from his admission to the Colorado Bar in 1966 until his appointment to the bench. He received his law degree from the University of Denver in 1966. He served as Deputy District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District in 1967 and Sheridan City Attorney in 1968. He was with the Martin Marietta Company from 1960 to 1966 engineering the design of Titan missile launch control equipment and various space programs. He was a product designer for Philco Corp., 1953-1960, and served in the U.S. Army, 1953-1955. Judge Ney graduated with a B.F.A. degree in Industrial Design from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art in 1953. Judge Ney has been involved in community organizations and frequently speaks on the Constitution and the role of the judiciary. Judge Ney especially enjoys serving in educational programs at law schools, colleges, and high schools. He is a former chairman of the Supreme Court Public Education Committee and has served on the Supreme Court Grievance Committee. He presently serves on the Court of Appeals Staff Attorney Committee and the Criminal Jury Instructions Committee. The State Commission was impressed with his role in initiating new procedures to monitor the progress of cases and the timely publication of opinions. Judge Ney brings a unique set of life experiences and background to the court. Attorney questionnaires received by the State Commission rate Judge Ney highly overall. He received high marks in treating parties equally regardless of race, gender, or economic status, in attentiveness at oral arguments, and his knowledge of the rules of evidence and procedure. Of the responses received from attorneys, 80% voted to retain Judge Ney and 20% voted not to retain him.

    Retention Year: 1990 Recommendation: Retain Judicial Performance Commission’s recommendation: Should Be Retained. Judge Ney received his undergraduate degree from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and received his law degree from the University of Denver. He was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1966. Prior to his admission to the bar, Ney worked for Philco Corporation and the Martin Company in the space program. He also served in the U.S. Army. Ney was in private practice from this admission to the Bar until his appointment to the Court of Appeals in 1988. Ney was praised by surveyed attorneys for his fairness. The attorneys and trial court judges were impressed with Ney’s ability to decide issues and to promptly render opinions in cases. Ney feels lawyers need to give back to the community and his service to the Court of Appeals is part of his public service.
